PAT’s AMISH QUILT

On my recent Amish Machine Class, I hadn’t taken anything to do but my friend Pat came up trumps, she had brought along a small square she had put together many years ago of an Amish pattern and I asked if I could start to quilt it for her…..YAY, thanks Pat I loved doing this. Here is the completed Quilt well it is more of a small hanging really…

JULY QUILT SET 2014 - 5

The following pictures are working from the centre out, the way I quilt normally. It had been marked with dressmakers carbon – yuk – I tried to follow the lines but if you look closely you will see I am not very good at that which is why I do freehand quilting always –

JULY QUILT SET 2014 -1

I chose to do micro stippling round those marked tulips to hide all the other marks, after about an hour I began to wish I hadn’t ha ha ha –

Just had to do some free-form feathers on there –

Then I decided to do a typical Amish pattern in the narrow Black border –

ooh then I had some fun doing big free-form feathers in the wide blue border, was great fun reversing them I can tell you –

The big cornerstones I decided to do the original Tulip pattern with a bit of a twist, do you think it worked? I do, then again though I had to do that darn micro stippling to keep it right – ho ho ho –

Jan, you did a fabulous job on this quilt – as always. It was marked with dressmakers carbon cos that was the only way of doing it way back when, which shows how long it has been in the cupboard!!! You really have made the quilt come to life and it will have pride of place on my wall.

  4. My pleasure Pat. Thanks for letting me experiment some patterns on your quilt, oh yeah, you didn’t know that did you ha ha ha
